Glasgow
is the largest city in Scotland and attracts more than
three million tourists each year.
One of the most visited tourists attractions is the Kelvingrove
Art Gallery and Museum, wich is
also the most popular Gallery
& Museum in the UK, outside London. The city has
approximately
1,000 restaurants and bars and is now second only to London as
Britain’s culinary capital. Glasgow was recently voted the
top
regional city for the choice and quality of restaurants and was
described as "The UK’s Hippest and Most Happening
City."
It's time to find out yourself...
Glasgow and Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Charles Rennie Mackintosh, designer,
architect and artist was one of the most creative figures in the
beginning of the 20th century. He was born in Glasgow, where most of
his surving work can be found. Mackintosh's contribution to modern
architecture, design and "The Glasgow Style" is unquestioned.
He designed The Glasgow School of Art (see
picture) in 1896. Today the school is still an art school and can only
be visited by guided tour. The Lighthouse: this former
Glasgow
Herald newspaper office is now home to Scotland's Centre for
Architecture and Design. The world famous Mackintosh
Tower provides magnificent views
across Glasgow.
